Control and Automation specialist appointed

We are delighted to announce that Martin Kernick has joined the team of Specialists at Western Electrical. Martin will be focussing on Control and Automation and his electrical engineering qualifications and extensive experience in these product ranges make him a very valuable addition to the team.

Purchasing Manager appointed...

Lee Pester has been promoted to the position of Purchasing Manager for Western Electrical. Lee joined the company nine years ago and is now a full member of CIPS (Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply). Company Director, Ian Morrison, said "We are delighted to make this announcement because Lee is a very valuable member of the team and in addition to gaining the practical experience within the company, he has achieved a recognised qualification to further his knowledge. Lee has an incredibly talented team working alongside him and in an extremely challenging role we have no doubt he will bring greater success to his department; to the benefit of the company and our customers".

A final comment by Ian... "Lee's studies and career meant he has been a very busy person, but he still found time to continue supporting Plymouth Argyle. I think this demonstrates his abilty to overcome any challenges that may be put in his path!".

Brendon Sage appointed as our new Sales Representative

Western Electrical is pleased to announce that Brendon Sage has been promoted to the position of Sales Representative at our Launceston branch. Brendon joined the company in March 2006 and has quickly progressed within the branch and Ian Morrison explained that "Brendon has worked very hard to get to the position whereby he thoroughly deserves this appointment. In the past six years Brendon has gained an enormous amount of knowledge about products and the services we offer, and he will undoubtedly be an asset to our customers".

LED's used in National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth

The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth approached our Plymouth branch to help them solve a lighting problem in the public areas. "The original halogen lamps had a very short shelf life so we were constantly replacing them, plus the heat generation was a problem over some of the smaller chilled water tanks" commented Jim Farley, Senior Engineer. Western Electrical worked in conjunction with a manufacturer and as well as providing a much more modern appearance with a brighter , lighter feel throughout the aquarium the estimated savings are already being calculated as 35,724 kWh annually, which amounts to 15.4 tonnes of CO2.

Chris hits the road...!!

Chris Uren has taken on a new role for Western Electrical as a Key Account Manager. Chris has been with us a long time and has a wealth of experience and he has particular expertise in the 'Food and Beverage Industry' and the 'Industrial' sector.

This exciting new role is a reflection of Chris's experience and expertise and he will be "... renewing a close working relationship with major clients that we haven't been able to focus on as much as we would have liked to in the past few years" said Chris.

Andrew returns to Lanson!

Andrew Martin has returned to our Launceston branch as the Branch Manager. Andrew has recently been managing our Bodmin branch but when an opportunity arose to return to Launceston he was delighted to grasp the opportunity. He will be well known to many of our customers from his previous time at the branch and he is very keen to introduce himself to anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of his 'unique' style of wholesaling.

College in ground-breaking deal

Western Electrical and South Devon College have struck a £50,000 a year deal with Schneider Electriic to set up a specialist electrical and electronics lab in the college, to give final year apprentices state-of-the art energy saving training.

Exeter branch raise money for charity!

In support of the recent national Wear it Pink Day on the 29^th of October our Exeter branch completed a 45 mile sponsored trek. The journey took them from the Exeter branch in Marsh Barton to the Plymouth branch in Cattedown. After much rubbing of deep heat and intake of chocolate bars the thirteen members of the Exeter team managed to cover the distance in relay by running, walking and cycling in a time of 5 hours; and to date our employees and customers have raised in excess of £1,250.00 for Breast cancer charities. There is still time to contribute sponsorship funds via any branch of Western Electrical.

New Website Launch

With the launch of our new website we aim to utilise many exciting developments in technology for the benefit of our clients.

Our printed catalogue has been a great success and on this website the catalogue is available as a ‘page turner’ for you to view, and we are developing an exciting e-commerce package to allow our account holders to place orders online and make enquiries about stock and availability.

Western Electrical has always utilised technology for the benefit of our employees and our clients and we will continue to do so, and we welcome all feedback about what you would like to see on our website.

Energy Saving Seminar at the Eden Project in Cornwall

We held an Energy Saving Seminar at the Eden Project in Cornwall in April 2010 and it was a tremendous success. This event was the second such event following the inaugural one at the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth in 2009; and for 2011 we are already planning our third event.

These events allows major national and international manufacturers, suppliers and distributors to showcase a range of products and is attended by Schneider, Thorn, Osram, Rittal, Lutron, Airflow, BEG, Robus, Megaman and many other leading organisations.

The success of this event is because our clients can have direct access to products and personnel involved in all aspects of energy saving and we will publicise this next event soon. If you’re interested in attending or exhibiting please watch this space!
